at Snook Bight and Bayfront Bistro

Event to raise support for breast cancer patients in our community

(Fort Myers Beach, Fla. – August 6, 2010) — The owners of Snook Bight Yacht Club and Marina, Bayfront Bistro and Marine Max are teaming up once again to join the fight against breast cancer with a weekend of Fort Myers Beach fun in support of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Southwest Florida Affiliate.

Boaters, sailors, families and guests young and old will all find something of interest at Snook Bight and Bayfront Bistro’s second annual “All Aboard Against Breast Cancer” Waterside Festival on November 19 and 20, 2010, at Snook Bight, 4765 Estero Blvd, located behind the Publix Shopping Center on Fort Myers Beach, or for boaters at Bay Channel Marker 27, VHF Channel 72, GPS 26’26.205 N 81’55.160W.

Last year we exceeded our expectations and gave Susan G. Komen for the Cure over $70,000,” said Joe Yerkes, President of Snook Bight Yacht Club and Marina.  “This year, our goal is to give $100,000.  The fight against breast cancer is so important.  This disease touches everyone in a family.  We simply must do everything possible to win this battle.”

The weekend will start with an exclusive wine dinner and auction at the award-winning Bayfront Bistro, the hugely popular and most exclusive waterfront restaurant in the area.   In the first full year of operation, Bayfront Bistro was awarded the prestigious Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator Magazine, one of only five award holders in Lee County and the only one in Fort Myers/Fort Myers Beach.  The restaurant also received the Wine Enthusiast Award of Distinction in January of this year.  Additionally, Bayfront Bistro has been awarded the important National Restaurant Neighbor Award – Florida for its community service activities including the spectacular 2009 Susan G Komen success. Bayfront now competes for one of four national awards in Washington DC this September. These prominent honors assure the Friday night dinner will more than exceed expectations.

The festival continues the next day with a complimentary event open to the Public on Saturday, November 20, at the marina.  Waterside activities include an in-water boat show and demonstrations by Sea Ray Yachts, as well as hands-on demonstrations of the all-new piloting systems from MerCruiser.

Live music will be performed throughout the day.  And the Game Guys will be there with fun X-Box and Wii games for kids of all ages.   We will also have an “All Aboard Cocktail for the Cure,” BBQ Extravaganza, and a silent auction and raffle.

A portion of the dinner and all net proceeds from the auctions and chance drawings will directly benefit the Komen Southwest Florida Affiliate whose promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

“We can’t thank Snook Bight and Joe Yerkes enough for their belief in our charity,” said Miriam Ross, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Southwest Florida Affiliate.  “I know that this will be an amazing weekend due to the special group of people dedicated to making it a success.”

The festival is free and open to the public.  The wine dinner is $100 per person, reservations are required, seating is limited.  For dinner reservations, call 239-765-4371 or for more information about the events, please visit www.SnookBightMarina.com.

We are so proud of the accomplishments of our first year here at Bayfront Bistro, including the most recent article by the News-Press food critic Jean Le Boeuf who selected us as one of his 6 most memorable dining experiences of 2009 and said “Finally, a restaurant worth a trip to the Beach” and “Bayfront Bistro IS As Good As Its Million Dollar View”.

We have received many awards already including “Best Dining on the Beach” and “Best Overall” in the Taste Of The Beach event this past year. This week we received a Wine Enthusiast Award of Excellence for our wine list and menu.

Now we have been chosen as one of the Best Restaurants on the Gulf Coast! We are very anxious to win the top award in this category.

(Fort Myers Beach, Fla.  – November 11, 2009) –Snook Bight Yacht Club & Marina and Bayfront Bistro surpassed its fundraising goal by raising $70,000 for the Southwest Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure at the inaugural “All Aboard Against Breast Cancer” event held last weekend.

The “All Aboard Against Breast Cancer” festivities kicked off in October with Bayfront Bistro’s signature “Cocktails for the Cure” offering.   For each custom beverage concoction purchased by diners at the award-winning restaurant, four dollars was added to the Komen donation.

On Nov. 6, the “All Aboard Against Breast Cancer” weekend opened with a wine dinner and auction that offered attendees the opportunity to bid on exclusive items such as ACE Group Classic Pro-Am positions, cruises and in-home dinners prepared by Bayfront Bistro Executive Chef Marbin Guzman-Avilez Sr. or Angelina’s Chef Nick Costanzo. The big winner for the night was a dinner for 20 with Bayfront Bistro Chef Marbin in the winning bidder’s home. When this item went for $6000 Joe Yerkes placed a second one on the block which fetched $4500. The excitement grew as Yerkes added artwork off of the walls to the auction block bringing 3 new items and $11,500 to the Komen kitty. “I thought he was going to sell the bar stools out from under me” commented Mike Wilke, Bayfront’s General Manager.

The festivities continued the next day with a boat show held in partnership with Marine Max and waterside festival open to the public. The scores of area residents that came also enjoyed live music by The Eric Stone Band, “All Aboard Cocktail for the Cure,” BBQ Extravaganza, boat show and a silent auction and raffle.

“The best thing about these events was that it gave not only our team, but our partners and customers the opportunity to get involved in supporting this important cause,” says Joe Yerkes, President of Snook Bight Yacht Club & Marina and Bayfront Bistro. “The Komen affiliate board and I are already looking forward to the second annual event next year.”

Yerkes will present the Southwest Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure board with its donation next month.
